International Artist Magazine Features Local Artist International Artist magazine chose master representational colored pencil artist Susan Tait Porcaro as a finalist in their still life competition for the Oct/Nov issue, with her painting of crabapple blossoms entitled, "Fragrant Promise".
Her latest piece, "Grace" an ethereal depiction of peonies, won Honorable Mention in the Connecticut Women Artists juried show in July, and is currently in the American Artists Professional League Grand National Exhibit at the Salmagundi Club in New York City; a public reception will be held on Sunday, November 2.

Veteran's Day Observance
|  | | The Town of Windsor's Holiday Observance Committee has announced that the annual will be held Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers at Windsor Town Hall located at 275 Broad Street. The public is welcome to attend.
This year's speaker is Dan Nolan, a Windsor resident who joined the Army in 1980 after graduating from Windsor High School. He served 3 years in the Army and joined the Hartford Fire Department where he has been employed for 25 years and is a Deputy Chief. Nolan remained in the National Guard for 9 years after returning from active duty at the rank of Captain and then joined the inactive reserve. In 2003 Nolan was activated and served a 14 month deployment in Iraq from August 2006 to October 2007 as a Combat Engineer in the capacity of Staff Sergeant with the 192nd Engineer Battalion. His duties included IED awareness and counter radio electronic warfare training. He was also served with the 130th Combat Engineer BN out of Puerto Rico and performed combat route clearance missions through the streets of Baghdad. Nolan currently remains in the National Guard as the Commander of the 256th Firefighter Detachment in East Lyme.
In addition to the main speaker, the Windsor High School Band will perform along with the traditional salute to the dead. For more information, call 285-1835.

That's why Carmon Community Funeral Homes is sponsoring special presentations will offer ways to help Greater Hartford residents cope. The free programs are entitled "Coping with Grief and Loss during the Holidays".

Community Coffee Chat Windsor residents are invited to come meet Windsor Superintendent of Schools Dr. Elizabeth E. Feser at an upcoming "Community Coffee Chat".
Residents of all ages are welcome to speak one-on-one with Dr. Feser on Tuesday, December 2 from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in The First Church in Windsor's Morrell Room inside the Parish House at 107 Palisado Avenue. People should enter in the rear entrance at the parking lot.

Cool Kids Clothes! Cool Kids Clothes is a non-profit children's clothing consignment store that sells gently used children's clothes at very affordable prices. Cool Kids Clothes is an outreach program of Grace Episcopal Church, Windsor, and is located in the lower level of the Church on the Windsor Green directly across from the Windsor Library. The store is managed by Melissa Rickard, a Grace Church parishoner who is also visually impaired and who uses a variety of helpful devises (such as a talking computer) to enable her to do her job.

Windsor's 20th Annual "Food for Health" Drive Dr. George B. Curry located at 15 Central Street will be sponsoring Windsor's 20th annual "Food for Health" drive on Saturday November 15th, 2008 to benefit the Windsor Food bank.
All services at Dr. Curry's office including spinal examinations, headache evaluations, carpal tunnel screenings and x-rays (if necessary) will be free of charge on Saturday, November 15th, 2008 from 9am-4pm in exchange for non-perishable food items. Door prizes valued at over $5,000 donated by 150 local merchants will be given away.
