On Tuesday, April 14 at 7pm, the Windsor Public Library will host a special showing of the 1962 movie starring Gregory Peck.
Copies of the book are available for loan at Windsor Public Library. Call the library reference desk at 285-1918 to register or for more information.
Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird is the rare American novel that can be discovered with excitement in adolescence and then reread into adulthood without fear of disappointment.
Few novels so appealingly evoke the daily world of childhood in a way that seems convincing whether you are sixteen or sixty-six. Lee tells two deftly painted stories set in a small Southern town: one focused on lawyer Atticus Finch's defense of an unjustly accused man, the other on the children; Jem, Scout and Dill as they discover the presence and nature of both good and evil in their lives and in the community around them.
The 1962 film version of the novel completely conveys the story and intent of the author. The casting was superb and the musical score haunting. Gregory Peck won the best actor Oscar for his portrayal of Atticus Finch and the character of Atticus in the movie has been deemed the #1 greatest hero of American film by the American Film Institute.
