Cutting Edge Salon Embraces Locks of Love
By: ShaRhonda Funnye Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides human hair wigs and hair pieces to children suffering from cancer and other related hair loss medical conditions. In Windsor, Locks of Love holds a special part in the life of Linda Carter, a hairstylist at Cutting Edge Salon. Carter has participated in Locks of Love for about ten years now. She got involved in the organization when “one of the clients had cancer and wanted someplace to donate hair,” she says. Carter’s part in Locks of Love at Cutting Edge Salon is preparing and cutting the hair. First she shampoos, conditions and dries a person’s hair before cutting. People willing to cut their hair for charity must have a minimum of 10 inches to donate in order for Locks of Love to use their hair in creation of wigs and hairpieces. Hair is then tied into a ponytail, and snip, snip, snip, the hair is removed. From that point, the hair is then placed in a clean, dry plastic bag and sent to the Locks of Love headquarters in Lake Worth, Florida. To anyone interested in donating their hair for Locks of Love, Carter says, “I think that it is a great, worthy cause. It’s for the children. Your hair will grow back. For them it really makes a difference. So if you’re interested in donating your hair for such a worthy cause, please make your way to Cutting Edge at 26 Maple Avenue in the center of town. Any of the salon’s professional stylists will be able to assist you.
