Gary Mather Named Manager of Carmon Funeral Homes

Carmon Community Funeral Homes has announced that a funeral director who has served Greater Hartford families for 20 years will manage its Vernon and Rockville, Conn. locations.

Gary W. Mather, CFSP, will work with families at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home on 551 Talcottville Rd. (Route 83) in Vernon, and at Ladd Funeral Home at 19 Ellington Ave. in Rockville.

Mather has been a licensed funeral director with the family-owned Carmon Community Funeral Homes for nearly 15 years. Before he joined the Carmons, Mather served families at several other Hartford-area funeral homes, and even assisted Frederic E. Turkington, who ran the Vernon and Rockville homes until his death in 1988. Turkington's son, Robert D. Turkington, is a Vernon Volunteer Firefighter, who often works as a funeral director with Carmon Community Funeral Homes. Mather became a funeral director in 1986 after receiving his degree from New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston, Mass., now known as Mount Ida College. The lifelong East Windsor resident served in the U.S. Marine Corps for seven years on active duty. When he returned home to Connecticut, he became an East Windsor Police Officer.Mather is a member of the Vernon Lions Club. He lives in East Windsor, Conn. with his wife, Sharon, and their two children.
