Windsor High School Students To Help Senior Citizens With Computer Skills

Windsor High School Students To Help Senior Citizens With Computer Skills
Windsor senior citizens who want to learn the basics of using the Internet should sign up now for a special two-part class to be conducted by Windsor High School students. The "Finders Keepers" class is a pilot project created by local business volunteers and students from the Windsor High School's Future Business Leaders of America Club.

Any Windsor resident, ages 65 or older, can register now for the two-part class to be held on Wednesday, February 24 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 10 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Windsor High School at 50 Sage Park Road. The total cost for the two sessions is $20 per person.

This new program is a collaborative effort of Windsor High Schools students and their business teacher Gloria Wellington, and three local business volunteers, Shivraj Vichare, Kriti Bhandari and Lauren Atwater.

"This new intergenerational pilot project offers one-on-one instruction to senior citizens of all skill levels to help them become comfortable finding their way on the Internet," explains Deborah Maccarone, Curriculum Supervisor of Fine Arts and Career and Technical Education for the Windsor Public Schools. "We value our partnership with local businesses and the expertise they can share with our students. We hope to expand this project in the future to enable larger numbers of local residents to become more proficient on line."

Space in the Finders Keepers class is limited and advance registration is required. To reserve a seat, sign up at the main branch of the Windsor Public Library on 323 Broad Street at the Lower Level Reference Help Desk. If you have questions and would like to speak to one of the business volunteers, call (860) 986-7616.
