The Hope Center Opening

In an ideal world, all terminally ill people would spend their final days in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes.  The stark reality is that many people spend their final days elsewhere due to intense pain control needs and challenging caregiver circumstances.

For these people, The Hope Center on our Kimberly Hall Campus here in Windsor is the answer. As part of the Genesis Healthcare Network, we partnered with VNA Health Care to develop our program, which allows us to offer to our patients and their families one of the strongest end-of-life care programs in the state.

Many local Windsor residents may already be familiar with Kimberly North and/or Kimberly South where we provide long-term, short term rehabilitative, specialized Alzheimer’s and respite care.  They may not be familiar with our hospice program in our Hope Center here, which is available to their family and friends.  The HOPE Center provides a home-like environment in a competent and caring clinical and emotionally supportive setting.  The center is ideal for patients whose pain control and symptoms cannot be met at home. Our professional and caring team provides care directly from the hospital to allow families time to prepare and learn new skills for a smooth transition home. For those that wish to return home, our dedicated and compassionate staff collaborates with the patient’s home care agency to further smooth this transition. Short stay caregiver respite care is also available.

Dr Pankaj Gupta, medical director for our HOPE Center, encourages, models, and supports the highest standards of patient care. He is a staff geriatrician with Hartford Hospital and completed his fellowship in geriatrics at Harvard University. Dr. Gupta recently joined fellow chamber member, Attorney Stephen Brown, in a multi-disciplinary, interdenominational panel discussion on end-of-life issues facilitated by Reverend Gordon Illaufsky, on behalf of the Windsor Clergy at Christ the King Lutheran Church in town.  Dr. Gupta’s warm professional manner, his sense of humor, and his collaborative leadership style has earned him much respect and admiration from patients, their families and staff alike. Many families tell us that the medical and the nursing staff goes above and beyond and exceeds their expectations.  Mary Glass, our Hospice Unit Supervisor, was recognized in May for a Nightingale Excellence in Nursing Award.  Mary’s loyalty, her unswerving dedication to her patients and their families is testimony to the level of care we offer. We are proud of our staff and of our facility and ask you to consider us when faced with life’s most difficult challenge.

Although The Hope Center has been fully operating for the past year, we will have our official on June 28 between 3:00 and 5:00 pm and invite you to stop by to meet our staff and tour our center. If you are unable to attend but would like additional information, contact Kelly Koretz, our Campus Admissions Director at 688-6443. You can also phone Jennifer Morgan, our Campus Marketing Director at this number or email her at Jennifer.Morgan@Genesishcc.com
