Join Windsor's "Thriving Children, Thriving Community"

Interested members of Windsor's business community are invited to participate in a new, grant-funded planning initiative called "Thriving Children, Thriving Community." Funded by the Graustein Memorial Fund and the Governor's Early Childhood Cabinet, the initiative is intended to create, by June 30, 2009, a comprehensive community plan for young children birth through age eight. The program's goal is to engage a broad cross-section of the community in this process so that the plan will reflect the needs, experience and wisdom of townspeople and professionals as broadly as possible. The plan will identify the town's resources and unmet needs related to young children and will recommend strategies to fill the gap and develop a coordinated and effective system to support the well-being and healthy development of our children.

The organizations that will collaborate to lead this process are Windsor's Early Childhood Council, the School Readiness Council and the School/Family/Community Action Team. These co-sponsors are seeking community representatives to participate in the endeavor, and recognize the critical importance of including representatives from the business community. Volunteers are sought to join the Leadership Work Group, which meets approximately once a month during the day and serves as the steering committee for the initiative, or to serve on one of the planning committees. These committees have not yet been formed, but it is expected that they will focus on health (physical, mental, behavioral, dental), early care and learning, and family well-being.

Anyone interested in serving on either the Leadership Work Group or one of the research and planning committees is urged to contact Ken Anthony, Family Resource Centers Coordinator, at 687-2000, ext. 284, as soon as possible. Your interest and participation will be welcomed and highly appreciated.
