Race for the Cure

Dear Windsor Businesses,

This spring, the faculty and staff of Windsor High School have chosen to participate in a wonderful event. We have rallied together to run, walk and donate to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Race for the CureŠ. We do this in celebration and support of Sharon Kurwelnz, an inspiring social studies teacher at Windsor High School who is retiring after 36 years. She is also a breast cancer survivor who is once again in the middle of an aggressive chemotherapy treatment.

For those who may not know, the mission of the Komen Foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease through research, education, screening and treatment. The Race for the CureŠ is held in celebration of all those who have had their lives affected by the breast cancer disease. This year, the race will be held on June 3, 2006 at Bushnell Park in Hartford, CT. In 2005, more than one million people participated in more than 100 races across the United States.

This year, an ever growing team of 70+ faculty, staff, family and friends of Windsor High School have pledged to run or walk the 5K June 3rd. We have set up a spring training schedule and WHS Team Kurwelnz has gathered terrific momentum over the past few weeks, including other teachers from other districts. Those participating look forward to crossing the finish line in celebration and support of Sharon Kurwelnz and all of our other family and friends who have endured the hardship of this disease.

In order to maximize our efforts and impact, we are asking local businesses and industries in Windsor to serve as sponsors for our WHS Team Kurwelnz. Your contribution to our team will go directly towards our team's goal of donating $5,000. Your contribution also means that your business logo will appear on each of our team member's t-shirts, which will be displayed during the race festivities on June 3, 2006.

Please consider patronage in the following categories:

ˇ Gold Medal Contribution -- $500 and business name or logo appears on sleeve of t-shirt
ˇ Silver Medal Contribution -- $250 and business name or logo appears on back of t-shirt in large print size.
ˇ Bronze Medal Contribution -- $100 and business name or logo appears on back of t-shirt in average print size.

Please consider becoming a WHS Team Kurwelnz Sponsor ... any contribution is welcomed and greatly appreciated! Please feel free to contact us for further details.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Gembala, WHS Social Studies Teacher, 687-2020 x 365, jgembala@windsorct.org
Kim Elmer, WHS English Teacher, 687-2020 x 594, kelmer@windsorct.org
