Windsor History Exhibit Plan Unveiling & Feedback
Help Windsor Historical Society Build a New Windsor History Exhibition!

Thanks to a planning grant from the Connecticut Humanities Council, Windsor Historical Society is excited to be planning a new and expanded exhibition on Windsor history to be installed sometime in 2010 or 2011.

We have been researching and planning all year. Now that the rush of the holiday season is over, we are ready to unveil our plans and we want your reactions. You are invited to the Society on Tuesday, January 12th at noon or at 5:30 p.m. (snow date January 13, same times) to catch up with your friends, learn a little about Windsor's history by viewing a ten-minute PowerPoint presentation that sketches out a potential storyline for the exhibition, enjoy delicious refreshments (coffee and desserts at noon, wine and cheese at 5:30) and fill out a one-page questionnaire.

We want the new exhibition to have broad appeal to visitors of all ages, so whether you are nine years old or ninety, we look forward to using your responses to the questionnaire to refine our designs. We also value the opinions of our non-local members and those who can't be with us on January 12. This is why we are putting the PowerPoint presentation and the survey on-line as of January 6th. Just access our website http://windsorhistoricalsociety.org , and follow the link on the opening page. Contributions towards the new exhibition will be matched by The Connecticut Humanities Council two dollars for every dollar contributed if our implementation grant application is successful. These may be sent to the Society at 96 Palisado Avenue, Windsor, CT 06095 or submitted online through the website.

The Windsor Historical Society, founded in 1921, invites visitors to explore the people, places, and events that have shaped Windsor for over 370 years. The Society's museum includes changing and permanent exhibition galleries; a hands-on history learning center for families; a research library and manuscript collection housing Windsor photographs, documents, ephemera, and genealogical materials, a museum shop and two historic houses open to the public--the 1758 John and Sarah Strong House and the 1767 Dr. Hezekiah Chaffee House.

The Society is located at 96 Palisado Avenue (Route 159) and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. General admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and students and free to children under 12 and WHS members. Call (860) 688-3813 or visit us on the web at www.windsorhistoricalsociety.org for directions to the Society and more information about
programs. To receive e-reminders for public programs, please send your e-mail address to jalberti@windsorhistoricalsociety.org.

One of the largest humanities councils in the nation, the Connecticut Humanities Council (CHC) nurtures thoughtful exploration of history and literature along with the cultural benefits of both. CHC's reading programs benefit Connecticut citizens of all ages by opening up the world of books to children, encouraging reading as a family activity and engaging adults in thought provoking book discussions. CHC's new $1.7 million Heritage Revitalization Initiative seeks to stabilize Connecticut's heritage organizations and position them for success while bringing the state's past directly to the public through an online encyclopedia of Connecticut history, the infusion of Connecticut history topics in the social studies curriculum and the creation of new media materials on our past. This year, CHC will produce or fund more than $3 million in cultural programming and enrich the lives of residents and visitors statewide.
