Sage Park Middle School Wins International Community Problem Solving Competition | | | On Sunday May 31st, 2009 Jonathan Mejias a student at Sage Park Middle School in Windsor, CT was awarded first prize in the International Community Problem Solving Competition held by Future Problem Solvers. This International competition was held in Michigan, USA.
This International award represents a great honor for the State of Connecticut, and a huge stride for the Green Eco Warriors. The Eco-Warrior s goal is to Educate and Motivate people to make a positive difference in our environment locally and globally. Jon s and his families goal is to bring education about our affect on the planet to all Windsor s public schools and all eventually all Connecticut s schools!
Sometimes we forget how truly powerful we are as individuals. Sometimes we don t know how powerful we are until we strive for something bigger. When we aim for the moon we can at least plan to fall amongst the stars. Things fall into place and we reach our dreams much faster than we thought we could. Jon says in words that seem beyond his years.
This project has been a ton of work, and each time I think it is wrapping up some amazing thing happens and I am glad I kept going forward. I am so excited about this new award, but not for me. I am happy for everyone that supported me. I want to thank all the people that donated money and time to help out.
It is not because things are difficult that we don t try, it is because we don t try that things are difficult I am not sure where my stepmother got that quote, but it seems to be true. Jon says with a smile.
It was an extreme honor for Jonathon Mejias to receive this award. It reflects positively on the staff and students at Sage Park, his town, his family, and his coaches. Jon feels strongly that the students and staff at Sage Park should feel connected and proud to have been part of this great accomplishment.
Jonathon asks educators and parents to remind students that, "Small steps can lead to large accomplishments, and encourage them to be positive role models for other youth.
