Green Committee Meeting Minutes 4/7/2008

 

The second Meeting of Green committee was held at 6pm at the Windsor Chamber of Commerce. There were six members in attendance. Many members submitted content via e-mail to Mr. Waivers for committee review.

 

Call for Items for News letter and Green Committee Website

 

Request for committee members to submit Green items:

John Waiveris put out a request for items regarding green committee or green happenings to be sent to him.

These items and happenings will be utilized for an upcoming news letter.

 

Website update:

Chamber approved the addition of Green Committee Navigation tab on their website. This will allow us to develop our web content and making the content easily accessible. Thank you the Chamber!  John has offered to be the content editor for the green committee Website. John is also looking for website content. 

 

Action Note: Website, John W will look at GreenEcowarrior video clips for website use

Add Windsor recyclable to educational webpage content. Add items we will educate on to tab.

Sage Park Recycling Program

 

Action Item: looking for Positive Press for Sage Park and new program

 

Update Sage Park:

 

  1. The Sage Park School recycling program kicked off on Monday the 7th. Things are going well. Jonathon Mejias will post contest updates at www.greenecowarriors.org . The contest ends on April18th. 

 

  1. Jonathan will awarding a "recycling themed award" to the winning team. Work is underway to develop the award. The award will be presented on April 19th at NWP Earth-day celebration.  (update: this has been changed to May 5th at the fieldtrip. John Zito from www.alchemyjuicebar.com is donating one trophy.)

 

  1. The youth at the school have volunteered to help Jon move the recycling bins in and out of the school daily. Yeah Windsor Youth! 

  2. May 5th NWP field trip is scheduled for the winning team. The fieldtrip was provided free of charge, and buses were provided by Sage Park's Principal Cavalerie. Thanks to NWP and Mr. Cavalerie.

 

  1. Jackie Pernell DEP officer has offered her support and expertise for the school and the Green committee. 

 

  1. Press release attached regarding Sage Park Program updates, Ann Walsh will support DVD clips on Win TV. Jon M to drop off DVD for editing by Ann Walsh and WIN TV. Thanks Ann!

 

 

 

Shad Derby May 17th / Green committee booth

 

1.      Solar Panel placement, the town is reviewing the Solar Panel placement at Chamber idea.

 

2.      Booth's Physical set up

Larry Moulthrop has designed the booth to have 3 sections.

Booth theme, Ambassadors of Green information

 

Recycling Section: Jon Mejias, tri-fold, video-clips, verbal info, sustainability info and photo he and Peter Faulk are working on re: foam trays at school. Sage Park examples and photos.

 

Electric section: 10 things listed to lower electricity use, Tech demo, Electric examples, lights, powered by hand crank setup, Info on electricity choices and general verbal information.

 

Action Note:  Larry will view the short film "Kilowatt Ours" for use. Scrolling info as well. Also: Develop or find 10 things listed to lower electricity use

 

Renewable energy sign up: We are looking for representation by Clean Energy Folks

We will have paper sign up forms and on-line option as well. Will have a thermometer provided to indicate how many folks sign-up as a visual goal. Pamphlets to be provided on clean energy. Provide info on the cost difference when you choose clean energy, ex. additional $4.00 per $100.00.

 

Action Note: Check with Chamber for budget for energy efficient bulbs to hand out.

 

3.      Recycling Bins on the town green

Committee would like to see bins on green for Derby.

 

Action Note: Randy Cole will contact Cyd Groff about placing recycling bins on the green the day of the Derby.

 

4.      WGC PINS

The committee LOGO will be placed on Pins that will sell for $2.00 each.

Action Note: Pins to be ordered through Zazzle. Logo needed for submission to Zazzle.

 

5.      Next meeting for Booth Mock set up will be held on May 6th @ 6:30 pm at Chamber. Members asked to be prepared to demonstrate their area of the booth.

 

Question, Does Peter Faulk know a T-shirt printer with Lower costs?

 

 

Green Star Awards

 

Templates were created for Individual and Business Nomination Forms.

These forms will be distributed via e-mail to list of 2000.

Press release will be submitted for contest guidelines.

May 30th Nomination Forms will be returned to committee by this date.

June 3rd at 6:30 pm Nomination Forms will be reviewed anonymously by the committee. Winners will be chosen utilizing feedback from reviews.

June 13 Awards will be given at Chamber Dinner ceremony

 

 

Questions and Other discussion items:

 

a)      NWP  clean energy sign up Booth? Can we get one for Earth day?  Jon W looking into this.

b)      Mission statement, committee agreed to add Community outreach and education as a goal, ambassadors on green information.

c)      Discussion of foam trays to make shade dome

d)      Governor Rell contacted about Sage Park program recognition

e)      Website found by Larry to submit Green happenings in Windsor to state of CT Onething.com

f)        Next project up for review after Shad Derby, "Farm share on the green options"
