Transportation Summit 2009On Thursday, May 7, the Town of Windsor Economic Development Commission and the Windsor Chamber of Commerce cosponsored a business breakfast at the Marriott on Day Hill Road. This event was intended to strengthen the connection/communication between the town and its employers and to promote transportation alternatives in Windsor.
More than 80 attendees heard from speakers regarding the town s business visitation program and ongoing efforts to enhance transportation. Joseph Marie, the new Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Transportation, provided the key note. He presented an overview of federal, state and regional transportation activities. One of his key points related to the need for the federal government to reauthorize the federal surface transportation program this coming year. Commissioner Marie stated it is imperative that the Northeastern states work hard to reshape the federal program to emphasize both maintenance and preservation of existing infrastructure as well as prioritizing public transit.
Attendees also heard from Sandy Frye, principal transportation planner with the Capitol Region Council of Governments. She presented highlights from the soon to be completed study outlining future improvements to the bus system serving Windsor and Bloomfield corporate areas.
