Chamber Means Community
|
| |
On June 11, 2010, three non-profit organizations received donations from the Windsor Chamber of Commerce. Why? Because one of the Windsor Chamber's goals is to enhance the quality of life for the people of Windsor. By working with other non-profit organizations, the Chamber can support the community in ways it can't do alone.
The three non-profit organizations participated in the Windsor Chamber's annual benefit auction, Windsor Chamber Cares, in April 2010. By bringing in auction donations, the organizations have a great way of fundraising and reaching an audience of donors who they may not otherwise be able to reach. To be a Chamber auction beneficiary, organizations must meet the following criteria: - Must be a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization - Must be based in Windsor or serve the Windsor community - Must not hold an auction of their own
This year's three beneficiaries were: - Community Health Resources - Everybody Wins - SS&C Summerwind
In addition to the money that each organization's items raise in the auction, the groups also receive a monetary donation from the Chamber to round out their donation checks. At the Chamber's Annual Dinner in June each year, Bill Gombert, auction chairperson since its inception 26 years ago, presents an oversized check to each organization and they collect their real checks that night as well. This year the donation checks totaled over $9,000.
Over the years the Chamber has helped Windsor's other non-profit organizations raise over $500,000 to benefit the Windsor community.
The Windsor Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization whose goal is to provide voice for the business community on issues of public policy, help businesses work together for their mutual benefit and advocate initiatives that enhance the town's and region's economic vitality and quality of life. Mark your calendars for next year's Windsor Chamber Cares benefit auction April 1, 2011.
