Swim Across The Sound
On August 2, 2008 Marty McMahon will be participating in the 21st annual Swim Across the Sound. This is a sixteen mile swim from Port Jefferson, New York across Long Island Sound to Bridgeport, Connecticut. The swim is a fundraiser for St. Vincent's Hospital cancer programs. Marty's Goal is to raise over $2000 for this worthy cause.
As many may know, he successfully swam across the English Channel in 1985 and around Manhattan Island in 1989. What many may not know is that his attempt at a third marathon swim ended in failure. That swim was also across Long Island Sound from Montauk, New York to Watch Hill, Rhode Island in 1993 at the age of 31. Now at age 45, he is excited to take on the sound again. Especially to assist in the efforts of St Vincent's Hospital.
