Bill Selig Jewelers Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Foodshare Drive

Bill Selig Jewelers has begun their 30th Anniversary celebration by holding a Foodshare drive in both their Windsor and Simsbury stores.
The Foodshare truck arrived early Tuesday morning, October 16, as owner Sharran Selig and her dedicated staff loaded the food onboard.
Sharran and her brother Bill chose to celebrate this landmark anniversary with the food drive because, as Sharran explains, "The Selig Family has been very involved in the Windsor community for well over 50 years. It was a great opportunity for us to give back to the community."
Foodshare services food pantries, community kitchens, shelters, and other social service organizations in every town in greater Hartford. President Gloria McAdam, who was on-hand to help pack the truck, gave the volunteers and staff some startling statistics. In the greater Hartford area alone, 1 out of every 10 people needs assistance, and most of them are families. 40% of those helped by Foodshare are children.
Foodshare is also celebrating an anniversary, their 25th. But as McAdams says, "we chose not to do anything special because it's hard to celebrate that there are still people that need our help twenty-five years later. Bill Selig and his staff have done a wonderful thing by giving back to the community and will hopefully inspire others to do the same."
To follow Selig Jewelers lead, people are encouraged to volunteer at the Hartford or Bloomfield facilities. Residents and companies can also make financial donations. One $30 donation is enough to feed someone for an entire month.
Sharran would like to extend thanks to all of their customers, because "it's really because of them and their generosity that has made this possible. They, along with our amazing staff, are part of our extended family that helped make this food drive a success." Windsor saw an outpouring of support that included two mother-daughter teams which came into the store every day with food for the drive.
Selig Jewelers will continue their anniversary celebration through November, as they re-design both stores. They will also introduce new lines, including Hidalgo enamel rings, Silver by Zina, Elle Jewelry and Watches (they are the exclusive retailer in this area), Simon G, and a Fair Trade line of Columbia Gems. And on top of that, Bill Selig will unveil his own designer collection during a preview party November 15-17.
