Carmon Funeral Home Wins National Award

Carmon Community Funeral Homes has been recognized with a national award for excellence. The firm is one of only three funeral homes in the State to receive a Pursuit of Excellence "Emeritus Eagle Award" from the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), and one of only eight Connecticut funeral homes to be honored with an excellence award in any category. The Carmon family and staff manage funeral homes in Avon, Granby, Hartford, Rockville, South Windsor, Suffield, Vernon, and Windsor (2 homes).

"The Pursuit of Excellence Award is the National Funeral Directors Association's premier standard for quality service," explains NFDA President Robert J. Biggins, CFSP, CPC. "This program recognizes funeral homes that demonstrate superior standards, community involvement, and professional accomplishment. They are shining examples of community outreach and set the standard for excellence for their peers."

This is the fourth year that the top level "Emeritus Award" has been presented to Carmon Community Funeral Homes. In past years, the family-owned firm has been honored with NFDA's Golden Eagle Award for Excellence, and numerous Eagle Awards for Excellence, Achievement Awards, and Continuing Achievement Awards.

In order to qualify for a Pursuit of Excellence Award, a funeral home must meet service criteria for professional and outreach programs in eight categories. They include: education; compassionate service; technical skills; community and professional service; library or media resources; public and community relations; professional development; and in-house staff training. In order to receive an Eagle Award, a funeral home must meet additional requirements within each of these categories. Only 8 Connecticut funeral homes were among the 223 funeral homes nationwide to be honored at one of five levels of Pursuit of Excellence Awards.

The National Funeral Directors Association is the largest funeral service organization in the world, serving more than 20,000 individual members who represent 11,000 funeral homes in the U.S. and other countries. Founded in 1882, it is based in Brookfield, Wisc., a suburb of Milwaukee.
