Invisible Gold uses Green Power

Local web design company, Invisible Gold, gets national recognition for eco-friendly leadership. This week the Environmental Protection Agency released a list of 420 business in the US that have purchased a significant amount of their energy from renewable sources like solar and wind.

"While it is nice to get the recognition, I think there are many others that deserve it more than us. We just spent a little extra to ensure that our power comes from renewable sources." John Waiveris, Owner Invisible Gold,LLC.

Invisible Gold was selected for the list because they purchased enough GreenTags to replace 100% of their electricity (office and web servers) from wind power, and to offset the emissions from the company's hybrid electric car.

"To become a Partner, organizations replace a portion of their annualelectricity consumption with green power. Partners need only commit to buy green power in an amount that is proportional to their annual use."www.epa.gov/greenpower/partners/leadershipclub.htm

Green Tags, also known as renewable energy credits, allow a business or individual to purchase renewable energy even though it might not be available locally. It provides an incentive for energy providers to use clean and renewable sources that wouldn't be financially viable otherwise.

In Connecticut, residential customers can sign up for a program that adds roughly 5% ($5-$20) to their monthly bill. Contact your electricity provider for more information. There are similar programs for businesses but you'll want to contact Sterling Planet directly for more information.

"Sterling Planet is a Connecticut Department of Utility Control licensed renewable energy supplier and a participant in the clean energy program for customers of Connecticut Light & Power Company (CL&P) and The United Illuminating Company." -www.sterlingplanet.com

The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund also has an interesting program for communities. Cities and towns that sign up 100 residential customers become eligible for the Clean Energy Community designation and a 1 kilowatt solar system. Visit www.ctinnovations.com/funding/ccef/communities.php and www.ctcleanenergyoptions.com/ for more information or contact the town of Windsor or Invisible Gold at (860) 285-0172 if you are interested in helping out.
