Civitans Participate in Windsor Adopt-A-Park Program

Civitans Participate in Windsor Adopt-A-Park Program
The Civitan Club of Windsor is participating in the Town of Windsor Adopt-A-Park program and has formally 'adopted' the River Walk on Route 159 and Pleasant Street Park along the Farmington River. According to the Town of Windsor, "the purpose of the Adopt-a-Park program is to promote partnerships between community groups and the Town of Windsor. These partnerships promote community involvement, improve park facilities and grounds, and improve park attendance. Removing litter and debris, controlling weeds, planting trees and shrubs, caring for plantings, reporting vandalism, and identifying hazards are the primary responsibilities of the Adopt-a-Park participants. This program augments the regular park maintenance provided by the departments, thus helping to make Windsor a more beautiful place for residents and visitors."

Participating in the Adopt-A-Park program, four club members spent a cumulative total of 16 hours at the park on October 5, working alongside employees from the Windsor Public Works Department. Club members helped spread stone and mulch in addition to their regular litter pickup.

While the club's main focus is helping individuals with developmental disabilities, members often participate in other community projects as well. Other projects have included, painting at WILA (Windsor Independent Living Association) and senior housing, cooking hot dogs and hamburgers at the Northwest Park Fair, running bingo at a local nursing home and volunteering at many community events.

By participating in the Adopt-A-Park program, Civitan hopes that keeping the park neat and clean will encourage others to do so as well by disposing of trash properly and taking out what is brought in.

Anyone interested in joining the Windsor Civitan Club and participating in one or more of its many rewarding projects is encouraged to contact Bob Hartman at 688-6139 or any club member.
