Central Regional Tourism Wins Prize for Excellence

The Northeastern Economic Developers Association (NEDA) has awarded the Top Prize for Excellence in Tourism to the Central Regional Tourism District, covering Connecticut's River Valley, for the district's "2005 Visitors Guide."

The award was presented at NEDA's 47th Annual Conference. A panel of experienced economic development and marketing professionals, selected from throughout the 12 Northeastern states, judged all award entries. The selection criterion was based on design and layout, clarity of message, production quality, functionality, and overall creativity and impact.

The Central Regional Tourism District, covering Connecticut's River Valley, was the first newly reshaped Tourism District in the state to premiere a new guide. The guide was produced in partnership with the Greater Hartford Convention & Visitors Bureau. It has become the ultimate sourcebook for visitors to the region, featuring color-coded sections including special sidebar sections that showcase professional sports, the state's ski areas, nearby attractions, and the region's Freedom Trail and Amistad sights.

The Central Regional Tourism District works to promote national and regional awareness of tourism in Connecticut's River Valley. Its goal is to increase the number of visits to the area, thereby resulting in revenue growth. The region covers 46 towns and cities and is located along the Connecticut River, which winds its way from the Long Island Sound over hills and rolling valleys, through the capital city of Hartford, and up to the Massachusetts border. For more information about the Central Regional Tourism District, call (800) 793-4480 or visit www.visitctriver.com

The Northeastern Economic Developers Association (NEDA) consists of more than 500 professional economic developers, appointed and volunteer economic development officials, and others committed to sound economic development practice, in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington DC. NEDA provides professional development education, publishes information about best professional practices, and supports the pursuit of individual economic development education throughout the Northeast.
