Consulting Design Engineer-Pulverizer Equipment- E07175
Plan, conduct and coordinate a range of complex engineering activities related to the design, testing, and operation of coal pulverizers originally furnished by the Foster-Wheeler Corporation and known as MB or MBF type.

Initial responsibilities will involve the design of replacement parts, incorporating upgrades for wear or performance improvement where appropriate. Incumbent will analyze the engineering requirements to support the needs identified by the commercial people on the support team, develop proposals and coordinate the engineering activities required to deliver the product and provide technical support during its life cycle.

Incumbent may temporarily manage and direct the activities of other engineers and designers within the engineering department. Must maintain awareness of state-of-the-art technology including materials, manufacturing technologies, and developments applied to pulverizers of CE/ALSTOM and B&W pedigree.

Complexity of Tasks
Requires in-depth knowledge of machine design engineering plus broad knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines to direct engineering efforts, coordinate engineering activities, and mitigate technical risks associated with new designs. Technical recommendations and decisions may have significant impact on the effectiveness and integrity of engineering efforts and affect future business and customer relations. Requires ability to negotiate and influence decisions of Company management and customers.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in engineering
Plus 8 years of experience.
Minimum of 2 years of experience designing or servicing vertical spindle coal pulverizers.

Under limited supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for providing advice and guidance on the commissioning, operation, maintenance, efficiency, and reliability of fossil fired steam generator equipment and systems. It provides an excellent opportunity for self-motivated, flexible individuals who enjoy challenging and diverse job responsibilities.

Activities include scheduling and managing steam generator equipment commissioning and inspections; inspecting equipment for problems, suitability of application, and remaining life; analyzing failed equipment, writing detailed reports; optimizing plant performance; training plant personnel; and testing equipment. Also includes analyzing, planning and conducting evaluations of a variety of technical tasks requiring the application of general engineering knowledge of power plant equipment. In this position, the incumbent will also act as the Company's representative in resolving and reporting on general technical and logistics problems while maintaining good customer relations and protecting the interest of ALSTOM Power. Will also conduct inspections, commissioning or test programs within estimated resources while ensuring that the quality of services will not be impaired.

Equipment includes: Fossil fired steam generators and associated controls systems, air heaters, fans, air pollution control systems, coal pulverizers, evaporators, valves, pumps and heat exchangers, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to travel up to 90% Internationally and domestically (assignments length may vary)
Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays
Ability to work long hours in hot/cold environments, high places, and in areas accessible only by climbing, bending or crawling.
Able to wear a respirator, climb ladders, crawl in small, enclosed spaces.
Curiosity, personal flexibility, technical practicality, analytical thinking, ability to get along with a wide variety of people, ability to communicate effectively, and ability to handle stressful situations.
Must have leadership skills or ability.
BS in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering or a combination of education plus experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments
5-8 years of related experience
International experience not requires, but a plus
MS Office, Word, Excel
