Got something newsworthy to tell? Write a press release!
Tips:
1. Print all releases on your company letterhead 2. Start with contact information 3. Headline should be brief, but enticing 4. First paragraph - CITY,STATE, DATE - text 5. End with three hash marks ( # # # )
Sample:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (12 pt. type)
Contact: Jane Doe (11 pt. type) Director of Marketing (860) 555-5555
HEADLINE (16 pt type)
WINDSOR, CT, November 15, 2004 - First paragraph: Immediately identify the news (e.g., event, exhibit, etc.) - reason for issuing release. Include all pertinent information about the story - "who, what, where, when, why." Get right to the piont with this information - you can get into more detail in the following paragraphs. (11 pt type)
Second paragraph: Include a quote from your organization's director or other executive, describing why your news is exciting or newsworthy; what benefits are for the public; how this will positively affect your organization/the state/etc.
Subsequent paragraphs: Provide additional detail/background about the news, in order of importance.
Last paragraph: Boilerplate copy - optional. Develop brief paragraph describing the purpose of your organization; include at the close of all releases.
