The Oliver Ellsworth Homestead opens for the season on Saturday, May 15, 2010
Built in 1781, Elmwood is the family home of Oliver Ellsworth, famous Revolutionary Patriot, Statesman and third Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Born in 1745, Oliver Ellsworth was one of the framers of the United States Constitution, he was Connecticut's first U.S. Senator, and he authored the U.S. Judidiary Act which formes the basis of our present day judicial system. The Homstead was visited by President George Washington in 1789 and by President John Adams in 1799. Today the Homestead serves as a museum that houses many of Ellsworth's personal heirlooms.
Hours: Open May 15 to October 15; Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday
From 12:00 to 4:00; the last Sunday of the month, May-Sept.
from 1:00 to 4:00pm
Admission is $4.00, no charge for children under 12
