September, 2008show full year
Event:The Faces of Windsor
Date:September 12th, 2008
Time:5:30 PM
Location:Windsor Historical Society
On Friday, September 12th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., you are invited to the Windsor Historical Society's free opening reception for its new exhibition Faces of Windsor: 1840 to the Present. Enjoy wine, cheeses and hors d'oeuvres, and then tour the gallery where you will find engaging portraits, group photographs, and candid pictures of Windsor residents taken during the past 160 years. Parking is available in the First Church and Windsor Discovery Center parking lots and around Palisado Green.

The images on display range from daguerreotypes taken in the 1840s to digital pictures from the 21st century. The subjects of these photographs reflect Windsor's diverse citizenry, from native-born New Englanders to members of the many ethnic and racial groups who settled in Windsor during the 19th and 20th centuries. Photographs of people of all ages, classes, and backgrounds will be on view. Their stories will be used to relate the larger history of work, play, and community in Connecticut's First Town.

Faces of Windsor personalizes Windsor's rich history. Visitors will look in the eyes of Civil War soldiers; meet baseball players from 1903; fish for shad in the 1950s and much more in an exhibition as beautiful and diverse as Windsor itself.

The photograph exhibition is part of an exciting year-long round of programs planned by Windsor Historical Society, the Town of Windsor, and the Windsor Chamber of Commerce. September marks Windsor's official 375th birthday, and celebrations will be in full swing throughout the month. For more information about these programs, please visit www.windsorhistoricalsociety.org or www.Windsor375.com. Many generous sponsors and supporters have helped make Windsor Historical Society's events possible, including:
