HartBeat Ensemble Performs at Windsor Art Center

HartBeat Ensemble will bring a preview of their Plays in the Park program to Windsor Art Center for the First Thursday in July at 6:30 PM.

Hartbeat Ensemble is Hartford's only professional theater company. It is dedicated to creating new works that challenge the status quo. Their work is based upon stories from the community. Through its Mainstage plays, Open-Air performances and Education programs, all of which are based upon Augusto Boal's theater of the oppressed, they make theater accessible beyond the barriers of class, gender or ethnicity.

Joining HartBeat Ensemble is spoken word artist Mira who is inspired by poetry, spoken word and Hip Hop greats like Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni, The Last Poets, Talib Kweli and Lauryn Hill. MIRA writes from the truth of what he sees in his community. He is emotionally attached to each poem he writes and uses spoken word as a window into his heart to express his love for his people. He calls his works SOAPBOX Poetry because he envisions himself on the corner standing on a soapbox spitting his message to anyone who will listen like the great community activist of the sixties.

MIRA also known as Abdul-Rahmaan I. Muhammad, is the President & Founder of My People Clinical Services (MPCS), a multidimensional human service agency located in Hartford, Connecticut.

Join us for an awe inspiring evening of emotionally challenging theater. Information: www.windsorartcenter.orgor 688-2528.
