Windsor Historical Society offers Genealogy Road Show October 30

On Saturday, October 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Windsor Historical Society will sponsor a Genealogy Road Show with experienced genealogists who are members of the Connecticut Professional Genealogists Council. They will give individual consultations along with help and advice on problems and challenges you have encountered in the pursuit of genealogy. Twenty-five-minute appointments are available on the hour and half hour with each of the six consultants. Cost for each consultation is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and $4 for WHS members. Schedule your appointment in advance by calling Windsor Historical Society at 860/ 688-3813. Reservations should be made by October 29 to assure sufficient time with the expert(s) of your choice. However, we will make every effort to accommodate drop-ins if space allows.

Genealogy, the fastest growing hobby in North America, is a quest to uncover a trail into your ancestry and link forebears together on a family tree. Genealogists find that historical artifacts and documents become pieces of a complex and fascinating puzzle that shows you where you came from and who you are. Inevitably, experienced as well as inexperienced genealogists hit snags even brick walls. All of the consultants appearing at the Road Show have spent many years working in this field, are familiar with area libraries and other research repositories, and have researched a wide variety of problems. They are well prepared to help you break through those genealogical brick walls. Consultants include:
Thomas Howard of East Granby whose specialties are immigration links, dead-ends, and Irish genealogy.
Virginia Howard of East Granby who handles 17th through 20th century genealogy research. Her specialties are Connecticut searches and immigrant research, especially Irish and Polish.
Irene Lambert, Master Graphologist, can analyze your ancestor's handwriting and what it reveals about their personality.
James Leatherbee of East Haddam handles genealogical research requests from the Colonial to modern periods.
Olivia Patch of Tolland covers Connecticut and Southern Massachusetts. Her specialty is French Canadian ancestry.
Edwin Strickland of New Britain specializes in Colonial New England, lineage societies, and is the genealogist for the Descendants of the Founders of Ancient Windsor. Ed taught an introduction to genealogy series at Windsor Historical Society three years ago.

You should bring as much information as you can to help the experts advise you on your genealogical quest. Windsor Historical Society's research library will be open throughout the day. Parking is available in the Windsor Discovery Center and First Church parking lots and around Palisado Green. This is a wonderful opportunity for genealogists so book your slot now.
The Windsor Historical Society is located at 96 Palisado Avenue (Route 159) and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. General admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, and free to children under 12 and Society members. Call (860) 688-3813 or visit us on the web at www.windsorhistoricalsociety.org for directions to the Society and more information about programs.
