Event:Interfaith Remembrance Service
Date:May 7th, 2008
Three upcoming community events can help people cope with the death of a relative or friend by celebrating the person's life. All area residents are invited to attend one of three Interfaith Services of Remembrance, presented by Carmon Community Funeral Homes and the Carmon Family.

The first service will be held on Wednesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church at 26 Wintonbury Avenue in Bloomfield, Conn.

The second service will be on Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at St. Luke Church at 141 Maple Street in Ellington, Conn.

The third event will take place on Thursday, May 29 at 7 p.m. at The Carmon Family Center at 301 Country Club Road in Avon, Conn.

Designed for people of all faiths, the uplifting Services of Remembrance program was created 24 years ago by Carmon Community Funeral Homes. The 62-year-old family-owned company is based in Windsor, Conn., and manages nine funeral homes in Greater Hartford.

"Many people want the opportunity to formally remember a family member, especially near Memorial Day," explains Lisa Peluso, R.N., Executive Director of Mary's Place A Center for Grieving Children and Families in Windsor. "After the intensity of the initial period of grieving, it can be helpful to take time to celebrate the life of someone we have loved. This service of remembrance conveys a sign of hope for new life."

All three programs will feature music, inspirational readings, a candle lighting ceremony in which a list of individuals to be remembered will be read aloud one-at-a-time.

The Wednesday, May 7 Bloomfield program at Sacred Heart Church will feature Father Aidan Donahue of Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield, Rev. Kenrick Prescott of Union Baptist Church in Hartford, Reverend Richard Huleatt of The First Church in Windsor, and Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz of Congregation Beth Ahm synagogue in Windsor. A message of hope will be presented by Elaine Kovach of the Pastoral Care Department at Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center.

The Thursday, May 22 Ellington event at St. Luke Church will feature Rev. Dr. Thomas Plathottam of St. Luke Church, Rabbi Kim Blumenthal of Congregation B'Nai Israel synagogue in Rockville, and other local clergy. A message of hope will be presented by Patty Naegeli, Chaplain with North Central Hospice.

The Thursday, May 29 Avon program at The Carmon Family Center will feature area clergy, including The Rev. Ronald May of St. Patrick Church in Collinsville. A message of hope will be presented by Elaine Kovach of the Pastoral Care Department at Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center.

People are invited to bring an unframed photograph no larger than 4-inches by 6-inches of their loved one to place on a bulletin board for display during the service. Photos will be returned following the service.

In addition, a special audiovisual presentation will be produced for the service featuring photos of people to be remembered. Anyone who wants a loved one remembered in a special audiovisual presentation to be presented at this service should send a photograph one week before the specific service to: Mary's Place, 6 Poquonock Ave, Windsor, CT 06095. Photos will be returned following the service.

People are requested to call and reserve a seat for any of the services, along with the name of a loved one whose name will be read during the service, by calling Carmon Community Funeral Homes in Windsor at 860-688-2200 or toll-free at 1-888-688-8475.
