Interfaith Services of Remembrances
The public is invited to attend one of three upcoming community events that can help people cope with the death of a relative or friend by celebrating the person's life. This marks the 26th consecutive year that Interfaith Services of Remembrances will be presented by Carmon Community Funeral Homes and the Carmon Family.

The first service will be held on Wednesday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at The First Church in Windsor at 107 Palisado Avenue in Windsor. The second program will be on Wednesday, May 26 at 7 p.m. at Wapping Community Church at 1790 Ellington Road in South Windsor. The third event will take place on Wednesday, June 2 at 7 p.m. in The Carmon Family Center at 301 Country Club Road in Avon.

Designed for people of all faiths, the uplifting Services of Remembrance program was created 26 years ago by Carmon Community Funeral Homes. The 64-year-old family-owned company is based in Windsor, Conn., and manages nine funeral homes and a crematory in Greater Hartford.

"These special services have endured for 26 years because many people want the opportunity to formally remember a family member, especially near Memorial Day," explains Lisa Peluso, R.N., Executive Director of Mary's Place A Center for Grieving Children and Families in Windsor. "After the intensity of the initial period of grieving, it can be helpful to take time to celebrate the life of someone we have loved. This service of remembrance conveys a sign of hope for new life."

All three programs will feature music, inspirational readings, a candle lighting ceremony in which a list of individuals to be remembered will be read aloud one-at-a-time.

The Wednesday, May 19 program at The First Church of Windsor will feature Rev. Richard Hanna Huleatt of The First Church in Windsor; Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz of Congregation Beth Ahm in Windsor; Rev. Kenric A. Prescott of Union Baptist Church in Hartford. A message of hope will be presented by Charlene Corbett, Minister of Youth Services and Outreach Services for The First Church in Windsor.

The Wednesday, May 26 program at Wapping Community Church in South Windsor will feature: Rev. Mark Abernethy of Wapping Community Church; Rev. Cynthia Carr of First Congregational Church of Vernon; and Rev. Dr. Karen Bailey-Francois of Ellington Congregational Church. A message of hope will be presented by Rev. Adele Crawford of Wapping Community Church.

The Wednesday, June 2 program at The Carmon Family Center in Avon will feature celebrated Farmington Valley Chaplain Sean Kennelly and Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz of Congregation Beth Ahm synagogue. A message of hope will be presented by Chaplain Kennelly.

A special video presentation will be produced for the service featuring photos of people to be remembered. Anyone who wants a loved one remembered in this way should send a photograph at least one week before the specific service to: Mary's Place, 6 Poquonock Ave, Windsor, CT 06095. Photos will be returned following the service.

If people prefer not having a loved one featured in the video presentation, but instead want to display a still photo at the service, they may bring an unframed photograph no larger than 4-inches by 6-inches to place on a bulletin board for display. Photos will be returned following the service.

People are requested to call and reserve a seat for any of the services, along with the name of a loved one whose name will be read during the service, by calling Carmon Community Funeral Homes in Windsor at 860-688-2200 or toll-free at 1-888-688-8475.
