Event:The Freedom Trail Celebration
Date:September 8th, 2007
The Connecticut Freedom Trail recognizes the importance of a number of sites throughout the State of Connecticut that are associated with the heritage and movement towards freedom of African Americans.

In celebration of the Connecticut Freedom Trail Month, the following Windsor Freedom Trail events are being held for the community in the month of September.

The Freedom Trail Celebration: Saturday, September 8, 2007 from 11:00a.m. 4:00p.m. This event will be held at Archer Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 320 Hayden Station Road, Windsor, which is one of the four Windsor Freedom Trail sites. This will be a day for the community to come together to celebrate Windsor's participation in the Freedom Trail. There will be free food, gospel music, and fun children's games and activities. You and your family will have an opportunity to visit Archer's historic cemetery and learn more about the Church's significance to the Freedom Trail. There will also be information available on each of the Windsor Freedom Trail sites. For more information, call Alfred Narcisse at 860-688-2479.

Windsor Freedom Trail Run: Saturday, September 15, 2007, starting at 5:30a.m. The Freedom Trail Run provides individuals an opportunity to pay tribute to those who fled from the South in search of freedom by way of the Underground Railroad. This year's run is approximately 3.9 miles. It will begin at the Archer Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church and will end at the Riverside cemetery on East Street in Windsor, a site where a number of African American soldiers from the all Black Connecticut 29th and 31st regiments and other civil war units are buried. Participants will stop at the other Windsor Freedom Trail sites including the Joseph Rainey House and the Nancy Toney grave site. Upon returning to the church, we will visit the historic Archer cemetery. A Freedom Trail T-Shirt will be given to all runners and a free country style breakfast will be served at the church for event participants after the run. To sign up for the run, call Alfred Narcisse at 860-688-2479.

These events are open to the public and all are welcome to participate. These Windsor Freedom Trail events are sponsored and supported by the Windsor Freedom Trail Committee and the Town of Windsor, and hosted by the Archer Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church.
